Womyn’s Equality is holding open auditions for the vagina monologues this coming Thursday, December 3rd, 2009. The auditions will be held at director Jessica Hughes house at 7pm.

Theresa Flores brought by the RSO Womyn’s Equality was a major hit. The Putney Auditorium in the Fetzer Center was packed full of people with some people sitting in the aisles alongside the seats. It was an enlightening speech that opened a lot of eyes in the audience.

Sex Trafficking in Michigan??

The RSO Womyn’s Equality is bringing Theresa Flores to the Fetzer Center tomorrow (Tuesday Nov. 17) for a speech on sex trafficking. It doesn’t only happen in southeast Asia and other countries like that.

Theresa was sex trafficked in the Birmingham area (yes Birmingham, MI!!) when she was 15 years old. Come hear her amazing, true story as she discusses her experience and have a chance to check out and buy her book that is not yet available in stores.

Pride Prom was a hit!!

The LGBT group on campus, OUTsoken held Pride Prom at the Radisson last night and it was a hit! Pride Prom was developed because many homosexual, gender queer, and transgendered people may have felt uncomfortable going to prom i the dress they wanted or with a date of the same sex. Many people have said that at their high school they weren’t allowed to buy a ticket for their date if their date was the same sex as them. Pride Prom gave many people an opportunity to have the same prom experience that straight people got to have in high school.

Pride Prom was all about come how you are, with who you want. The overarching message was just be you! Many people went even to support OUTspoken and to dance the night away. Straight, gay, transgendered, gender queer, intersexed, or however you identify, everyone had a blast at Pride Prom.

Bronco’s defeated by the Spartans

Sadly our dear Bronco’s could not hold their own against the Michigan State Spartans. The game was over pretty much before it even started. I attended the game and I saw more action at tailgate then at the actual game.

It started out rough when Michigan State scored in the first two minutes of the game and continued to do so. Western’s first possession included 5 plays and a fumble giving the Spartans the ball on the Bronco’s 40 yard line. The Bronco’s failed to score in the first half but put some points on the board shortly into the second half.

couldn’t hold their own, I heard from numerous people that the Bronco’s band was substantially better than State’s band (The Spartan’s band played music from the Fiddler n the Roof top soundtrack, apparently back by popular dem

and but it left many wondering demand from who?). I also give props to the cheerleaders because even though the bronco’s were down an astonishing 35-0 at the end of the first half, they never stopped flipping, and twirling, and smiling.

The game may not have been too exciting but it’s always fun to go out and support your school! And I got to get a picture with Buster the Bronco!!

This week CAB is bringing raved author of the Post Secret books Frank Warren.

Warren’s story is chronicled on his website at http://www.postsecretcommunity.com/news-faq/postsecret-story

After collecting postcards with different secrets on them, Warren published them into a book and continues to receive posts online every week at http://postsecret.blogspot.com/ . Post vary from love stories and tales of the one who got away to stories of suicide, depression, and drug addiction. Warren’s post secrets allow individuals to confess their “secrets” in an anonymous and nonjudgmental way. Many people find it very therapeutic to confess in an online community surrounded by those in similar situations.

Frank Warren’s visit to Western Michigan’s University will be this Wednesday, Nov. 4th at 8pm. Tickets are $5 or $10 for students, and $10 or $20 dollars for all others (depending on seats).

Parents should be advised that this show contains adult content.

With Halloween just around the corner, many people are planning to have a wickedly good time this weekend.

If you find yourself out at a party or a bar, be responsible. Don’t drive home. No cash? That’s ok just call Drive Safe Kalamazoo (DSK) for a safe, free, non-judgemental right home.

DSK operates Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night’s from 11pm-3am and is made up of volunteers from Western. Call (269)-345-0DSK which is (269)-345-0375 and don’t forget your bronco id!

Don’t need a ride? Become a volunteer with DSK. Visit www.drivesafekalamazoo.com and click on become a member.

Here are the positions students can fill during the night:

Drivers- On a typical night, DSK will be running with 7 cars, with 7 drivers and 7 navigators. Drivers are responsible for providing a ride home to our patrons. Drivers must be of 18 years of age or older and have a valid drivers license.

Navigators- Our navigators are the passengers in the cars and are responsible for maintaining contact with headquarters. This member is also in charge of reading the patrons their rights; calling patrons to let them know we’re almost there and recording all ride information.

Operators- There will be typically three operators per night answering patrons’ phone calls. These members are in charge of taking down the information necessary to pick-up our patrons.

Dispatchers- On an average night there will be two dispatchers. These members are in charge of getting the information from the operators and passing it to the navigators via cell phone.

Lukeskies- Lukeskies go to various bars, clubs and parties to promote DSK and assist those in need of a ride. They can contact headquarters by cell phone if someone is in need of a safe ride home. Lukeskies must be at least 21 years of age.

Vehicle Status Board(VSB) Operator- This person is in charge of deciding which car receives the rides depending on where the cars are located and where they are headed to next to make sure we are being efficient as possible. While this position is normally filled by a member of our executive board, regular members with knowledge of the area are welcome to try too!

Director in Charge- A member of our executive board that is in charge of operations each night. They set up the apartment for the night and decide which jobs to give the volunteers.

Intramural hockey heats up as the undefeated Team Too Nasty faces off against the undefeated Team 1300. Both teams are 2-0 and show promising talent.

Hiller sets new records but Central dominates in Saturday’s game

According to wmubroncos.com, Western’s senior quarterback, Tom Hiller, broke school records for touchdowns and completetions in a career, and pass attempts in a single game this past Saturday. Although Hiller played an amazing game, Western couldn’t pull out a win against Central. Hillers stats include 410 yards in the air along with 40 out or 66 completed passes. Western players Brandon West (RB), Robert Arnheim (WR), Austin Pritchard (LB), Deauntay Legrier (LB), Justin Braska (DE), and Anthony Wiggins also played very well against the Chips.

However, the Bronco’s just couldn’t pull out a win against the Chippewa’s. Opening the 4th quarter with possession of the ball, Central drove for 79 yards and scored their last touchdown of the night when LeFevour completed a seven-yard pass to Antonio Brown; going up 34-16 on the Bronco’s.

Western didn’t give up as they completed their final touchdown to end the game with a score of 34-23. Hiller’s final touchdown to Trey Smith (WR) marked Smith’s first td of his college football career and Hiller’s 89th td of his career. Hiller tied Byron Leftwich for second place all-time in the Mid-American Conference with his 89th touchdown.

Although Central improved their record to 4-0 in the MAC conference and Western fell to 2

-2, the Bronco’s will play next weekend at Waldo stadium for their homecoming game against Buffalo.
